Once Upon A Time...Village Vintage

This guy. Located downtown in the Village of Arroyo Grande, Ely Panos' shop is chalk-full of turquoise, vintage, and loads of treasure. Stop in for a good find and an excellent chat. In meantime, here's a little interview with man himself, the owner of Village Vintage...

Why vintage? What was your road to becoming the owner of Village Vintage?

One of my favorite things about vintage is that it tells our past. It physically puts history in your hand. You might have only seen something in a picture or on a movie and now your holding it. These items teach you about a forgotten time..... My parents and grandpa both collected so I always remember being around it. My parentsalso had booths at Village Antique Mart and A Glance Into The Pastantique stores in the Village of Arroyo Grande. Growing up that's just what we did as a family and I cant always say I loved it. Weekends, road trips, and family vacations kind of revolved around it. My mom is from Michigan and when I was younger we would go picking out there. I started going out with my mom and aunt again buying for myself and a little extra. I would sell to local shops and started doing antique shows like Three Speckled Hens. As I became more successful with the shows I had an opportunity in the location I'm at now and this month is the start of my forth year in business there. I am so thankful to own a business in the Village and for all of my amazing customers.

What are you most proud of (specific items or aspect) at your shop?

One of the things I'm most proud of about the shop is that I get to share with everyone a piece of our family...

What are some your favorite things to do in SLO County?

Some of my favorite things to do in SLO county besides picking are hiking, summer concerts, back road driving, any one of our amazing restaurants, and playing softball...

What's exciting on your horizon?

On the horizon I plan to do more shows, internet sales, and make some t shirts, buttons, and hats. I hopefully will be on the road as much as possible out picking and finding more treasures.

Free plane ticket to anywhere: where would you go?

Greece. My dad is from Greece and moved over here when he was 12. My grandfather was from Athens and my grandma was from Sparta. So I would love to go all over the country. I have family all over there. The last time my family went I was too young so I couldn't go. All of my friends went for our senior trip in high school but I wanted to see it with my family first so I opted out. After I explored Greece I would like to go on a solo backpacking trip around Europe untill my money ran out.

...and he lives happily ever after...
