The September 2015 issue of Sunset Magazine asked two SLOcals where what they do here in San Luis Obispo--and we made the list! Find us spotlighted in the 'Ask A Local: the Real SLO County' article--thank you Sophie for the sweet, sweet shoutout!
"I never know what I'm going to find in this shop, The owner does a terrific job curating vintage and repurposed housewares and furniture. The clothes are great too. She has a way of presenting things that allows you to see their infinite possibilities, whether it's a bicycle from the 1940s or a paint-by-numbers painting of Jesus. I bought half of a plastic rocking horse and turned it into a light fixture for our backyard!"
When we received a call asking if we do press pulls, it took a minute for the shock to wear off--it was Darling Magazine! We had such an amazing time with the stylists handpicking items from our shop and nibbling on treats.
New Times Best of SLO County 2013-15
Three years and running, we are so ecstatic our customers chose us in the New Times' readers' poll as Best Antique Shop in SLO County! Thank you all for your vote of confidence and love--we feel the same about you (why isn't there a Best Customers in SLO category??). It's a pleasure to be among so many high caliber antique stores here, we would have a hard time picking a favorite!
"Antique shops are one of the greatest gifts to SLO; you can find tons of great vintage items, if you're willing to dig around. Ruby Rose has a deal for you that's calling your name. Stephanie Hendry, the store's owner, said 'the most popular items being bought at Ruby Rose are blankets, art, clothing, and interior decor.' A good bunch of those items come from Los Angeles and San Francisco, where they specially pick them for the store. Hendry mentioned that Free People is one the several brands of clothing that they carry and said that the items are 'from 1940's to the 1970's era.' This gives anyone a great excuse to find something from an earlier time and keep it as their own."

AAA's Via Magazine
We were featured in AAA's January/February 2014 issue of Via Magazine! We were honored to be included in their round-up travel guide alongside other SLO small businesses: Granada Hotel & Bistro, Central Coast Wines, Big Sky Cafe, Batch Ice Cream and Firestone Grill. Thanks AAA, we sure are blushin'.
"A few blocks outside the heart of downtown, Ruby Rose fills a warehouse with desirable doodads from the 1940s through today: manual typewriters, old-fashioned globes, picture frames. Neither jumbled junk shop nor stale antique emporium, it’s a curated assemblage of surprising delights."
Flea Market Style Magazine
We were honored to be featured in the September 2013 issue of Flea Market Style in their Wine Country Wanderings guide to the Central Coast of California--can you spy our old tipi??
"We kicked the shopping into high gear at Ruby Rose. The inventory is charming - and the selection of vintage clothing is impressive - but what really sets this store apart are the artful, fun displays. Taylor made herself part of one, doing her best impression of a princess by donning a tiara and pink 1950s gown and camping out beneath a makeshift tent of vintage linens."
Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic Couture
We were absolutely over the moon when we were featured in Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic Couture blog! Meeting darling Rachel in real life was a dream, we couldn't believe it!
"The name of this store alone was enough to spark my curiosity....just up the road in San Luis Obispo but then to arrive with roses, shortbread cookies, and tea in a real tea cup. Ahhhhhhhh. A lovely group of ladies headed by Stephanie. They were excited to meet me, as I was them. I always find new stores off the beaten path exciting. I bought some old LPs for my kids, a bright red glass light for inspiration and a funny little painting. Some treasures come in disguise, and some more obvious. This little shop is full of charm and soul and I could have stayed and chatted for some time to come, but I did have a destination to get to."
