Hidden Treasure: Picking Daisies by Kim

Picking Daisies has put together a fun showing of watercolors by local artist Tracy Taylor, who happens to be a Ruby Rose regular. "Love is in the Air" is the Valentines theme and each watercolor is a framed original matched with a colorful fabric handpicked by Picking Daisies.

There are 10 different watercolors and Tracy had each reproduced into cards.
The cards are sold in a set of 10 Cards for $20.00 or individually for $3.50 each.

Now if you're like me - a "fabric-a-holic" - you won't want to miss dropping in just to look at their fabrics and other fanciful creations. They are known for their cloth napkins, but they sew many other useful things too, all made from 100% cotton fabrics in a variety of vibrant colors and designs.

So put on your dancing shoes and get out of the house! I know Tracy will be there with a song in her heart ready to dance.

Check out Picking Daisies post about the event, here. See you there!

In our own SLOHO neighborhood there is a studio that is part of this event. IDREW art studio is tucked away behind the Marine Shop on Pacific street, in the SLOHO district. The artist in residence is Drew, and can be found inside, surrounded by diverse artistic offerings. There is a lot to see in his small studio. Here a sampling of his talent.

Here in San Luis we have what's called Art After Dark. On the first Friday of every month, businesses around town host a local artist, showcase their art in store, and serve a little somethin' (sweets, treats, coffee, etc.) for the local community. We were so lucky to have Natellie Saia back for a second time around. Natellie's work is a perfect fit for us, as it mixes in effortlessly with our store.

The weather was a little chilly, but that didn't bother these guests...they just borrowed a blanket and continued to enjoy!

Getting to Know Her...

We are highly anticipating this coming Friday. We wanted our customers and blog readers to get to know Natellie a bit so we decided to ask her a few questions. Her work will be showcased at our store for Art After Dark this Friday, August 5 from 6-9 PM. Come and check out the amazing talent, shop around, enjoy small bites (and coffee and lemonade!), and hang out with the coolest people in town. Can't wait to see you!

RR: Natellie, we want our customers to get to know you. Can you answer a few questions?

NS: Yes ma'am I'd be glad to...

RR: How would you describe your work?
NS: I would describe my work as capturing objects that I love and words that make me smile.

RR: Who inspires you?
NS: Natalia Fabia, her work is absolutely amazing.

RR: When you are not creating, where would we find you?
NS: Sally Loo's-Duh!

RR: What can you not work without?
NS: I absolutely can't work without music, there has to be something playing in the background, or else I start singing--which, since I work ourtside, the neighbors aren't too fond of.
