Oh, Ralph...

The issue of Architectural Digest this month stopped me in my tracks, when I realized Ralph's & my home had some things in common! They had a whole spread on Ralph Lauren’s living spaces, and as I looked through the pages, it has become pretty apparent that his way of life is partly my own dream life!

"It’s all an extension of something I wanted in my life - or my dream life
- Ralph Lauren.

Agreed Ralph! Why not live like our dream life?!

I love this photo of his desk with all of his toys, tools and trinkets all perfectly placed--I wonder if any of these were his as a child? Does he fiddle with them while he works?? I, for one, definitely work more productively when all is in a controlled chaos:
You never know what you'll want to read when, so it’s good to keep the coffee table well stocked with stacks of inspiration available (Look Ralph! We both love white bouquets!):
As you can see, we are both equestrian lovers!

These are just a few aspects of my dream life...

Rainy Day

About this time of year, I can usually be found around my garden waiting for the little green sprouts to appear on the hydrangeas, lilacs, roses and just about anything that has gone away for winter. I can also be seen watching the clock around 5ish and wondering if it is staying light out later in the day. What can I say, I am a big fan of spring!

This past monday was rainy, and I was a bit antsy. I opened the recent Elle magazine to help pass the uneasiness and to my surprise, I was quickly transformed. This was the ad that got me smiling.

I wanted to photoshop myself right in between these perfect people. The advertisment just called me in. Maybe it was the lovely lace against the rock wall, maybe it was the gorgeous women beautifully dressed, or maybe it was the men in their classic simplicity with crisp white tees and trousers. I am certain that the sun kissed tans and the beautiful fabrics were speaking to me.

A few pages further was this. IMG_0039

Once again, no words, just beautiful fabrics and accessories (they make me swoon). I am loving the pleated skirts and the vibrant colors for spring (this is coming from someone who dresses in beige and cream).

This page was such a breath of fresh air! So soft, so feminine.IMG_0041

Loving the vintage influence in these!

Next, I opened the Marie Claire Maison October issue and was instantly motivated by these photos.IMG_0049IMG_0051IMG_0052IMG_0053

I can hardly wait to get to the store and move things around!

We are consistently blown away by the style and talent of our customers and visitors. We will occasionally hear that they will come in to be inspired or to find a component for a project, but really, we are the ones that are in awe!

This is Kyle and when he pulled up in this vintage 'stang which turns out, this was his very first car. We begged for a picture and he obliged.

Thanks Kyle.

Three Wise Guys

From time to time we all need inspiration. Usually we go looking for it, and sometimes, it finds us. In the last couple of weeks, inspiration found me.

I wouldn't say that I'm a huge Oprah fan, although I am a fan. Knowing that Oprah's stint was coming to an end, I tuned in to the last few weeks of her show...she is Oprah after all. I was hit with inspiration from her.

This inspiration was from a poster that hung in Oprah's dressing room which had been given to her by a guest she interviewed, Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor. Dr. Taylor wrote a book after suffering a stroke that affected the left side of her brain. The poster simply said "take responsibility for the energy that you bring into this space". Simply taking responsibility for your life, the energy you create for yourself and the energy that you bring to others...brilliant and something to be more aware of!

The second stream of inspiration hit during the Ralph Lauren interview (of course). Oprah seemed as in awe of the man as some of us are here at Ruby Rose. She asked him how he went about creating his image and how it came about. His response was profound. Something to the like of, "It wasn't something I created, it was and is the way I live my life and you always need to keep a clear vision of it."

I was also moved by the a film I finally got a chance to rent--180° South. It had been on my must-watch list for some time.

I love love loved the movie. Besides Ralph, Mary Randolph, Chanel etc., I have always admired Yvon Chouinard and all that he has accomplished. His clear vision and the way he lives his life is something to aspire to. Written on the front of the movie, his quote was "the adventure begins when things go wrong'". So true, on many levels. How many memories are made up from a perfectly planned and executed trip?

So, it has been a good couple of weeks. I was flooded with inspiration by a few words of wisdom from a couple of my favorite people. These words are not just simply words but words that these people live by, and I will now do the same. Inspiration found me then, where will I find it this next?
